Industrial Organization

The area of industrial organization studies how firms strategically operate in markets and how competition authorities can use their policy instruments to improve the efficient functioning of these markets. Faculty members publish regularly in top journals and act as advisers to firms or competition authorities on important cases (ranging from telecom auctions to cartel cases). Behavioral Economics

Behavioral economics studies whether and, if so, how economic agents depart from the traditional rational approach to individual decision-making, and what the potential consequences are for aggregate economic outcomes. Consumer Search

Departing from the standard assumption in much of traditional microeconomics that consumers are perfectly informed about the characteristics and prices of the products available in a particular market, research on consumer search takes as a starting point that consumers have to invest resources to acquire this information.
